Dublin Dog Foundation
The Dublin Dog Foundation, the non-profit branch of Dublin Dog Co., Inc., which helps foster the therapeutic and service roles of dogs in the development, support, and inspiration they provide to their human companions, successfully completed the 2009 Let Freedom Bark Ride fundraising initiative and exceeded the fundraising goal of $20,000.

The Dublin Dog Foundation teamed up with Canine Assistants to select Winston-Salem, N.C., resident Terry Montgomery, who has Cerebral Palsy, to receive the sponsored service dog, Butterball. The funds raised covered all the costs associated with the training, graduation, food and medical bills for Butterball's lifetime. Fundraising efforts surrounding the campaign included the 2009 Let Freedom Bark charity ride, the national raffle for the official Dublin Dog Foundation Dream Bike and Sidecar, and over two-dozen fundraising events. Winston Salem, NC resident, Joy Adams, was hand selected by fellow Winston-Salem resident Terry, to win the official Bike and Sidecar with a value of over $3,000.

No bulls in this china shop, only employees' and customers' pets!  Replacements, Ltd.--based in Greensboro, NC and the world's largest supplier of china, silver, crystal and collectibles -- knows how to keep their employees and customers happy!

What is REPLACEMENTS?
In the 1970s, Bob Page, founder and owner of Replacements, Ltd., began collecting china and crystal on weekends while working as an auditor for the state of North Carolina. Bob was an auditor for the state of North Carolina at the time he began his unique hobby.

As friends learned of his interest in china and crystal, they asked him to be on the lookout for particular dinnerware patterns they needed as well as pieces they had lost or broken. Bob quickly found himself devoting more and more time to his hobby, often staying up until the early morning hours to fill orders. Bob stored the china and crystal in his attic, while his bedroom served as his office. From Bob’s weekend hobby he grew Replacements into what is today’s 415,800 square foot facility.

The company has become the world's largest supplier of old and new china, crystal, silver, and collectibles. Their facility, which equals the size of seven football fields, houses an astounding inventory of 13 million pieces in more than 300,000 patterns--some more than 100 years old!

But the best part? Replacements’ 540+ associates are allowed to bring their pets to work every day. The company encourages customers to bring their animal friends as well!

According to CEO Bob Page, the practice started when:
“One year for my birthday, one of the employees here knew that I loved his dog, Ernie, that he had rescued and he gave me that dog for my birthday. I thought, I just cannot leave Ernie at home, I’ve got to bring him with me to work. I realized how much it meant to me to be able to bring my dog to work and I thought, well, I’m sure that others here would feel the same way about bringing their pets to work so we started allowing our employees to bring their pets to work and I do think it means a great deal to so many of our employees. I’ve heard more than one employee tell me the best fringe benefit we have at Replacements is being able to bring their pet to work.”

With all of those pets, you may ask: do the pets ever have accidents?

Bob says: “Occasionally we do have an accident and we do ask that the pet owners clean that up, but I don’t remember a pet ever breaking anything here at Replacements. We’ve been very fortunate in that we’ve had a number of people and customers to break things out in our showroom, but the pets have never broken anything.”

Replacements has anywhere from 20-30 dogs in the building on any given day. Employees and customers mostly bring in dogs, but they do get the occasional cat, rabbit, ferret, bird and other animal friends. Their customers have brought in a duck and a pot bellied pig into their showroom/museum!

Bob started this policy at least 13 years ago. Although Ernie died many years ago, Bob adopted his Miniature Dachshunds Toby Lee and Trudy Mae, who come to work every day along with some of their offspring.

Their pets really like being part of their owners workday, and employees really like having them as it makes every day that much better!

So if you are ever in the area, feel free to stop by, and bring your well behaved pet to take the grand tour, but please no bulls!
